History

1000 gecs cover art.

Pre-100 gecs Era

The ponderosa pine tree or "Gecca" would be planted next to a parking lot of an Acuity Brands office building.

Until 2019, the tree has been served as nothing but a gardening design for the office's exterior.

The Photo Shoot

One day, the hyperpop duo 100 gecs and Gabe Howell went to the tree for a photo shoot.

The photo would then become the famous cover for their debut album, "1000 gecs".

Rise to Fame

After the release of 100 gecs' debut studio album, fans would find its coordinates

from the album cover, revealing it to be located in Des Plaines, a city near Chicago located in Illinois.

Gifts and Conflict

Fans would make their "pilgrimage" to the tree as they would imitate the standing from the cover

and also leaving little trinkets and gifts in the process. However, since the tree is property

of the nearby Acuity Brands office space, fans would sometimes get kicked out by police as it would be considered trespassing.

Present

The tree itself still stands today in the same office space exterior.
